The Costa Verde Hotel uses a converted Boeing 727 as a luxury two-bedroom lodge. While the exterior of the plane appears to be intact, the interior has been completely decked out in teak. Windows look out onto the jungle and ocean, and a viewing deck has been built into the wing.
The bedrooms have air conditioning and private bathrooms. Dine in the kitchen, or enjoy local food and drinks at El Avion, the Costa Verde's restaurant and bar, housed in a C-123 Fairchild cargo plane that fought in the Iran War in the 1980s. Experience traditional Kyrgyz life in one of three large “tents” (called “yurts” by the Kyrgyz) in the Happy Nomad Village. Surrounded by summer flower gardens, each traditional yurt is built with a heated floor, and has a circular perimeter that can accommodate up to five people. The interior is simply furnished with colorful rugs and traditional wall designs.
The hotel has a large communal bathroom with multiple showers. Breakfast includes homemade bread and jam, served in a communal tent. During the day, you can take a horse-drawn carriage ride into the mountainous countryside with your host, who speaks English, German, and Russian; or in winter you can go skiing at the Karakol Ski Resort, a 20-minute drive away.

Almost everything in this hotel is made from salt, including the building and the furniture. If you want to sleep amidst the sounds of the Amazon rainforest, head to the Treehouse Lodge in Peru. To get to the hotel, you have to take a 1-hour boat ride from Iquitos, then climb up to one of eight round treehouses in the jungle canopy. The treehouses are circular, about 5m in diameter, with railings, curtains and mosquito nets.
The treehouses all have corridors leading to a central treehouse where Peruvian-style meals are served. Monkeys, squirrels, macaws, sloths and other forest dwellers can be seen around the resort. Daily tours take guests to see river dolphins and visit indigenous villages.
