(Baonghean.vn) - On the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year – the Year of the Goat, Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong - Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Commander of Military Region 4, along with a delegation from the Military Region 4 Command, the Party Committee and government of Quang Tri and Thanh Hoa provinces, visited, extended New Year greetings, and inspected combat readiness at Con Co Island (Quang Tri province) and Me Island (Thanh Hoa province); Major General Nguyen Van Hieu – Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 4, along with a delegation from the Military Region and the Nghe An Provincial Military Command, visited, extended New Year greetings, and inspected combat readiness at Mat Island (Nghe An province).

On the islands, the delegations held ceremonies to lay flowers and light incense in commemoration of the heroes and martyrs at the memorials dedicated to heroes and martyrs on the islands.

Major General Nguyen Van Hieu – Deputy Chief of Staff of the Military Region and Major General Doan Ngoc Son – Deputy Head of Political Affairs of the Military Region presented gifts to officers and soldiers of the Mat Island Combined Battalion.

During their visit to the living quarters, inspection of combat readiness, and New Year's greetings with gifts to the military and civilians of Con Co Island District, Me Island, and Mat Island, Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong and Major General Nguyen Van Hieu acknowledged and commended the collective leadership, officers, soldiers, and people of Con Co Island District, Me Island, and Mat Island for their efforts in building a strong and prosperous Con Co Island District in all aspects, developing strong and comprehensive units, and successfully completing training and combat readiness tasks in 2014. Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong and Major General Nguyen Van Hieu wished the officers, soldiers, and people on the islands a happy and prosperous New Year, and urged the officers and soldiers on the islands to enjoy the Spring Festival while not forgetting their duties, to coordinate effectively, and to always be proactive and ready to fight in all situations to protect the Fatherland's seas and islands.

Party committees and unit commanders have done a good job in political and ideological education, building a solid ideological front; organizing training for officers and soldiers to master tactics and techniques, and to be ready for combat on the island; continuing to do a good job in preparing and organizing successful party congresses at their respective levels; actively increasing production and livestock farming to ensure good logistics and living conditions for the troops; and ensuring the safety of warehouses, weapons, and equipment on the island.

Lieutenant Colonel Vuong Kim Hai – Deputy Head of Political Affairs (Nghe An Provincial Military Command) presents gifts to officers and soldiers on Mat Island who have particularly difficult family circumstances.

On this occasion, the Nghe An Provincial Military Command also presented gifts and New Year greetings to the officers and soldiers of Mat Island. As part of the action program for the sea and islands of the Provincial Military Command's Youth Union, the Provincial Military Command also presented 12 gifts, each worth 500,000 VND, to 12 officers and union members on Mat Island with particularly difficult family circumstances, and 91 gifts, each worth 100,000 VND, to officers and union members on Mat Island.
