Couple donates to charity online and then embezzles nearly 100 million VND
By searching for articles sharing about difficult situations and copying them, adding their personal bank account numbers and posting them on Facebook groups to receive donations, the couple appropriated nearly 100 million VND.
On the afternoon of November 10, the Investigation Police Agency of Son Tra District Police, Da Nang City, issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Pham Thi Quyen (25 years old, residing in Son Tra District, Da Nang City) to investigate the act of using cyberspace to defraud and appropriate property.
According to the investigation, around December 2022, Quyen's husband, Nguyen Linh Doan (29 years old, residing in Man Thai ward, Son Tra district, Da Nang city) went on Facebook to search for articles sharing about difficult circumstances, serious illnesses... Then, Doan copied them, added content such as the account number that Quyen was using and called for donations to charity.

Using the above trick, Quyen and Doan took advantage of the sympathy of the online community to appropriate charity money. After the money was successfully transferred to 4 accounts under Quyen's name, Quyen immediately transferred all of it to Doan's account.
From December 2022 to February 2023, Doan and Quyen colluded to appropriate more than VND 91 million in charity money donated by many individuals. When the case was discovered, Quyen was banned from leaving her place of residence to serve the investigation. Meanwhile, Doan fled the area.
The case is currently being investigated by Son Tra District Police.
