Announcement of the decision to appoint the abbot of Phuc Yen pagoda

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of December 17, Phuc Yen Pagoda in Ngoc Son Commune, Do Luong District held a ceremony to announce the decision to appoint the abbot. Attending the ceremony was Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu - Permanent Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

Phuc Yen Pagoda was built in the 18th century. During the resistance war against the French, the pagoda was the place where Military Zone 4 and many other agencies produced weapons. In 1951, after the French colonialists bombed the pagoda, only ruins and a Bodhi tree that was over 100 years old remained. Some of the sacrificial objects are still preserved by the people.

Presently, the pagoda has been donated, renovated and built by the people on the old land near the Lam River bank, meeting the spiritual aspirations of the people.

Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu - Permanent Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha presented the decision to appoint abbot of Phuc Yen Pagoda to Venerable Thich Vinh Tuong.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee announced the decision of the Buddhist Sangha of Nghe An province to appoint Venerable Thich Vinh Thuong as abbot, responsible for organizing Buddhist activities at Phuc Yen pagoda according to the provisions of state law and the charter of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha./.
