Tam Thai commune is one of the localities in Tuong Duong district with the largest number of livestock and poultry supplied to the market for Tet (Lunar New Year), with over 30 tons. Therefore, the people of the commune are actively restocking their livestock with local breeds suitable to the soil and climate of the region.
Mr. Kha Van Thanh from Lung village, Tam Thai commune, said that after selling more than 30 black pigs during Tet (Lunar New Year), his family is actively taking care of their herd. “My family mainly raises pigs in a semi-natural way, feeding them readily available food, ensuring they receive the right amount of nutrients, so the animals develop well. Throughout the breeding process, my family strictly adheres to vaccination schedules and focuses on building hygienic pigpens,” Mr. Thanh shared.

Tuong Duong District has directed relevant departments to provide technical, veterinary, and financial support to help people reinvest in livestock and stabilize production. Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, Head of the District Agricultural Extension Station, added: “We are encouraging people to plant grass and develop cattle, buffalo, and poultry farming. The veterinary department has assigned staff to closely monitor the area and support livestock farmers with vaccinations and protecting their animals.”
Despite the volatile market, farmers are still striving to maintain livestock farming.
Despite significant market fluctuations after the Lunar New Year of 2017, especially with volatile and uncertain livestock prices, the family of Mr. Tran Xuan Son in Hamlet 7, Nghia Hung Commune (Nghia Dan District) still sells nearly 6,000 laying hen eggs every day.
Currently, Mr. Son's family is raising 6,300 laying hens. Before Tet (Lunar New Year), he sold eggs at 1,800 VND/egg, but now the price has dropped to 1,500 VND/egg. Despite the sharp drop in egg prices, his family is still focusing on improving the quality of their poultry farming.

In many localities, farmers have mobilized investment capital for breeding stock, acquired additional technical equipment, and developed livestock farming towards clean, commercial production. Local authorities also advise households not to panic, to choose suitable livestock, and to avoid raising livestock in large numbers at the same time, which can easily lead to price manipulation by traders. They also continue to implement solutions to address difficulties faced by farmers, such as: strengthening the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge in livestock farming; protecting and developing livestock herds, minimizing losses caused by diseases; and developing small-scale and large-scale livestock farming models in the form of group-based household linkages to increase economic value.
