By 2020, nearly 7,000 MW of power will be added.
During the 2016-2020 period, 24 more units of power source projects with a total capacity of 6,989 MW will be added to the national power system.
Vietnam Electricity Group said that 24 units of 13 key power source projects are mainly large thermal and hydropower projects and urgent power source projects for the Southern region such as: Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 1,244 MW, Duyen Hai 3 Thermal Power Plant expansion with a capacity of 660 MW, Vinh Tan 4 Thermal Power Plant (1,200 MW), Vinh Tan 4 expansion (600 MW), Thai Binh Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 600 MW, Lai Chau Hydropower Plant with a capacity of 1,200 MW and Huoi Quang Hydropower Plant with a capacity of 520 MW.
Together with power source projects invested by other units, these projects, when put into operation, will contribute to ensuring capacity and output for the load.
Along with that, ensuring the progress of important power source projects also helps balance output and capacity between regions, reduce long-distance transmission, especially transmission from the North and Central regions to the South, thereby reducing power loss on the transmission grid.
