Changes in the homeland of General Chu Huy Man

As a suburban area, in recent years Hung Hoa commune (Vinh city) has had remarkable socio-economic development. With internal strength and the attention of the Party and State, all aspects of life of Hung Hoa people are gradually improving, the socio-economic situation has many changes worthy of being the hometown of General Chu Huy Man.

Many people returning to Hung Hoa commune after a long time, traveling on the Ta Lam dike road, also known as the ecological road along the Lam river from Ben Thuy bridge down to Cua Hoi, through the commune, cannot help but feel both familiar and strange. Familiar, because there are still bamboo hedges, mangrove hedges, fields and shrimp ponds that have been associated with this countryside for generations. Strange, because the villages are now "bright", many spacious high-rise buildings have sprung up, wide and straight roads have just been completed, and many projects are under construction.

Hung Hoa used to be called Yen Luu commune, Yen Truong commune, Hung Nguyen district. On this occasion, we heard people tell stories about General Chu Huy Man with great pride when the hometown gave birth to a general who had great contributions in the struggles for national liberation and protection of the Fatherland, and was a member of the Politburo and Vice Chairman of the State Council.

Hung Hoa people said that in the past, people's lives were poor and miserable, they did not have enough food to eat, did not have enough clothes to wear, and were always bullied and threatened by village chiefs, canton chiefs and their henchmen. Like many other families, the life of Mr. Chu Van Quy and his wife - Mrs. Tran Thi Xan (the parents of General Chu Huy Man) was always in poverty. Mr. Quy had to work as a rickshaw driver to make a living and died early from overwork when his youngest son, Chu Van Dieu (aka Chu Huy Man), was only 14 months old. In that extreme situation, Mrs. Tran Thi Xan had to sell her two daughters so that her children could have a chance to live and have money to raise 6 children at home. And that mother died in the famine of At Dau year (1945), before the government fell into the hands of the revolution.

Although his family was poor, the youngest son Chu Van Dieu (born in 1913) of Mr. and Mrs. Chu Van Quy - Tran Thi Xan was given the opportunity to go to school, soon became aware of the revolution and determined to follow the path of fighting for national independence and became the nucleus of the local revolutionary movement.

People of Hung Hoa commune make a living on the Lam River.

In the old days, in the lower reaches of the Lam River, in Yen Luu, in late autumn and early winter, when the tide receded, along the riverbanks, there were many floating worms, and people went out to collect them. Considered a “gift from heaven”, the worms helped people alleviate their “hunger” and deprivation during the darkest years under feudalism and colonialism. In 1929, there were many floating worms, and many people came out to collect them. The young man Chu Van Dieu joined the crowd going to the riverbanks to collect worms to propagate the revolutionary struggle.

The peasants who only knew how to "sell their faces to the land and their backs to the sky" always thought that their dark and miserable lives were due to fate. Through the exchanges of that educated young man, they understood the generations of suffering and humiliation stemming from the colonial and feudal regime. And to get rid of the shackles of slavery, the only way was to rise up and fight under the leadership of a revolutionary organization with the ideology of serving the people and the country. At the peak of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, the people of Yen Luu and people everywhere rose up to fight, making the tyrants and village chiefs terrified and scared out of their wits. The young man Chu Van Dieu was appointed Deputy Captain of the Red Self-Defense Team and was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam in November 1930. From then on, communist soldier Chu Van Dieu - Chu Huy Man persevered on the revolutionary path, even though he was sometimes imprisoned and exiled, he remained steadfast and determined and later became a famous general, holding many important positions in the Party, State and Army.

Originating from the location downstream of Lam River, the terrain is low-lying, so Hung Hoa has always been a "bag" containing water, causing this land to always be in a state of flooding and salinity. Because of that, the livelihood of the people here is more difficult, rice grains and potatoes also contain more hardship and difficulty. With diligence and hard work, Hung Hoa people always find ways to adapt, turning disadvantages and difficulties into advantages, into ways to make a living.

Areas that are less flooded and not affected by salinity are planned to become fertile fields, where rice flowers and grains bloom in every season. Areas that cannot be planted with rice are planned to become sedge fields as raw materials for mat weaving; some areas are formed into duck farms, then shrimp ponds. In front, on the other side of the dike is the Lam River, where every day there are boats going up and down casting nets and casting nets.

Not far from the city center, but at one time it felt like Hung Hoa was isolated from the city, because this land was still imbued with the countryside. There were still vast fields, immense shrimp ponds, lush green mangroves, winding small roads, and low-lying houses. But in recent years, Hung Hoa has “awakened”, partly thanks to the attention and investment of the province, and partly thanks to its location and internal strength.

Transportation is considered the "blood vessel" of the local economy and society. Recently, Hung Hoa commune has invested in building a number of key routes, creating conditions to change the face of life. In addition to the Ta Lam dike route passing through the area, there are also the 35m route, the extended Nguyen Sy Sach road and the commune center road. These routes create conditions for convenient travel and trade and connect with the inner city of Vinh and the coastal city of Cua Lo to promote the development and urbanization process.

The roads being invested in and built in Hung Hoa will expand the connection with Vinh city center and neighboring areas.

Along with the urbanization process is the shift in economic structure towards reducing the proportion of agriculture and increasing the proportion of other industries and occupations. In 2022, Hung Hoa's total production value reached 305.1 billion VND (102.1% of the annual plan). It is worth noting that the economic structure has changed significantly when the proportion of industry - construction accounts for 45.3%; services - trade accounts for 36.2% and the proportion of agriculture - forestry - fishery accounts for only 18.5%.

Currently, Hung Hoa has a large real estate project under development, Eco Central Park Urban Area of Ecopark Founder with a total investment of up to 1 billion USD including villas, commercial townhouses, townhouses, and luxury apartments. These projects promise to continue to change the face of Hung Hoa in the near future, contributing to the development of trade and services, improving income and living standards for the people.

Secretary of the Party Committee of Hung Hoa commune - Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Linh said: "In recent years, the life of all aspects of Hung Hoa people has improved a lot, especially the proportion of industry - construction and services - trade has increased rapidly, promoting the transformation of economic structure. Besides, infrastructure has been invested in and built, attracting many large projects, income is gradually increasing. Along with the attention of the Party and the State, Hung Hoa is promoting its internal strength in the process of socio-economic development, worthy of being a homeland rich in revolutionary traditions, the homeland of General Chu Huy Man".
