Around June 2018, Duc needed money to invest in business, so he came up with the idea of using a smuggled car as collateral to get money.
Duc asked defendant Long to make fake vehicle registration, inspection and circulation stamps for Lexus, BMW and Mercedes.
Duc sent photos of the vehicle registration form, ID card registration, inspection certificate, inspection stamp, road fee stamp for Long to use photoshop software to edit it so that Le Minh Duc is the owner of the vehicle, changing the ID card number, vehicle registration plate, chassis number, and engine number accordingly.
After completing the image file on the computer, Long sent it back to Duc's email. Duc printed these fake documents himself.
Using this trick, Long forged 3 ID cards of Le Minh Duc and forged 3 sets of vehicle documents for 3 cars.
Then Duc told defendant Chung to use fake vehicle registration papers in Duc's name to contact the bank to borrow money but was unsuccessful because Duc's vehicle registration and marriage status certificate were fake.
At this time, Duc asked someone to find a place to pawn the car.
The accusation is that defendant Chung knew that the car was smuggled and the car papers were fake, but he still contacted Mr. Le Tien D. and Mr. Tran Van M., asserting that the car's origin was legal, so that the two men trusted him and agreed to accept the mortgage.
On August 3, 2018, Duc and Chung mortgaged a Lexus 570 car to Mr. M. for more than 1.3 billion. Duc appropriated this money and used it for personal purposes.
Using the same trick, on August 4, 2018, Chung and Duc continued to mortgage the Mercedes car with fake car registration, asking Mr. M. to lend them 1.5 billion VND.
Mr. M. took the car for inspection and discovered that the vehicle registration and chassis and engine numbers did not match, so he did not give the money to Duc and filed a police report.
The indictment determined that Duc played the role of mastermind, Chung and Long were accomplices who helped Duc carry out the act.
Today's trial had to be adjourned to summon more people involved.
