With hundreds of years of development, Nghia Dan district has always been mentioned as a land rich in revolutionary traditions, one of the "cradles" of ancient Vietnamese people (the archaeological site of Vac village now belongs to Thai Hoa town, with bronze drums and tools for working and hunting... brilliant symbols of Dong Son culture).
In October 1930, at Ru Am cave, Tho Loc commune (now Nghia Duc commune), the first Party cell of Nghia Dan district was officially established. This was one of the first Party cells established in the mountainous districts of Nghe An. Since the establishment of the Party cell, the revolutionary movement in Nghia Dan has developed strongly.
Since May 2008, Nghia Dan district has adjusted its administrative boundaries. At that time, the most developed central part of the district was separated to establish the young town of Thai Hoa.
At the time of administrative boundary adjustment 15 years ago, Nghia Dan district's infrastructure was lacking and poor, the area was divided, the roads from the district center to many communes were very difficult to travel. The fields of education - training, health, culture - society had a low starting point. Some even started from zero such as: No office; no facilities for cultural and sports activities; no hospital. The staff at the district level was both lacking and not uniform. The poverty rate was high, with 9/24 communes and 30% of hamlets in particularly difficult areas, the lives of people in remote areas were still low.
That reality poses many difficulties and challenges for cadres, party members and people of Nghia Dan district. However, with its revolutionary tradition, proactively seizing opportunities, knowing how to exploit and awaken the potential and advantages of the locality, especially promoting the factor of "humanity" and the tradition of solidarity, Nghia Dan has quickly overcome difficulties and challenges, creating many clear changes in the past 15 years.
With the solidarity of cadres, party members and people, together with the attention and facilitation of mechanisms and policies of all levels and sectors, Nghia Dan district has mobilized many resources for socio-economic development. The most prominent mark is that the economic structure has fundamentally shifted from traditional agricultural production to commodity production in the direction of agricultural application of technology and high technology; the growth rate is high, maintained steadily for many years and is sustainable; the proportion of industry - handicrafts, basic construction increases rapidly (from 19.9% in 2009 to 43.67% in 2022).
The economy is stable and has high growth, the economic structure is shifting in the right direction. In the current period of 2020 - 2025, the growth rate is estimated to reach over 15%, the budget revenue in 2022 will reach 227 billion VND, the average additional income will be over 70 million VND/person/year. The poverty rate has decreased sharply, from 20% to 4.07%.
The rapid and sustainable development of Nghia Dan district today is the result of the joint efforts of the entire political system and of all classes of people in the district in determining the right direction and solutions for each field. Up to now, the infrastructure system from the district to the grassroots has been invested in and built from many sources of capital and the joint efforts of all classes of people. The traffic system has been asphalted and concreted to the villages, hamlets, and to each household. The school system, commune health stations, and electricity systems have been renovated, renovated, and maintained.
The new rural appearance has many improvements, from a district with no communes meeting more than 8 criteria, 02 communes not meeting any criteria, up to now, Nghia Dan has 20/22 communes meeting new rural standards and 01 commune meeting advanced new rural standards, this is an important premise for Nghia Dan to realize the goal of a new rural district in this term.
At the same time, Nghia Dan district has promoted investment attraction, many important projects have been implemented, creating momentum for socio-economic development. Up to now, many large-scale production and business projects have been operating effectively in Nghia Dan, such as: Fresh milk factory, MDF wood, purified water of TH Group, garment factory, stone powder processing, plastic additives, animal feed, wood panels, decorative wall panels... at Nghia Long Industrial Park.
The district is also actively attracting investment in many large projects in the agricultural sector in the direction of applying high technology, focusing on exploiting the advantages and potentials of land, climate and labor resources in the area. From there, aiming to realize the goal of building Nghia Dan into a center for developing high-tech agricultural economy in Nghe An province.
According to comrade Pham Chi Kien - Secretary of Nghia Dan District Party Committee, the development path in the coming time requires all levels and sectors in the district to focus on implementing well the work of building a strong Party and political system. At the same time, promoting solidarity among all classes of people in socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security.
The district has issued many projects, programs and plans to implement the Resolutions of the Party Congresses at all levels and the Resolution of the 29th District Party Congress. Thereby, focusing on improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party organizations and Party members; improving the quality of Party cell activities; developing grassroots Party organizations and Party members; strengthening inspection, supervision, Party discipline and anti-corruption work... creating solidarity, consensus and joint efforts of Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front and political and social organizations, and people of all walks of life for the sustainable development of Nghia Dan district.
To achieve the set goals, Nghia Dan district continues to do well in attracting investment, mobilizing maximum resources for development investment to create an important shift in economic structure, especially in high-tech agricultural production associated with agricultural and forestry processing. Pay attention to investment and development of agriculture and rural areas associated with improving living standards and ensuring social security. Effectively implement 03 National Target Programs in the area.
