(Baonghean.vn) - On the evening of November 16, in Vinh City, the Provincial People's Committee held a memorial service for victims of traffic accidents in 2014. Attending the ceremony were Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Steering Committee and representatives of provincial departments, agencies and branches.

The activity of commemorating the victims of traffic accidents is an opportunity for us to remember and express our sympathy for the unfortunate people who have had accidents while participating in traffic; and to share the pain of loss with their relatives. Through the activity, we aim to warn the whole society about the disaster of traffic accidents, the causes and risks of traffic accidents in Vietnam; to raise awareness of the whole population in complying with traffic safety laws and order, and preventing traffic accidents. This is also an opportunity for each of us to remind ourselves, our relatives and friends of our responsibility to ensure traffic safety for ourselves and for the community; to call for help and share from the community about the losses and difficulties of victims and families of traffic accident victims.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thanh Dien emphasized: In recent times, the work of ensuring traffic safety and order has been paid attention to by Party committees and authorities at all levels in our province. The traffic safety and order situation in the area has had many positive changes. Traffic accidents have decreased, people's awareness of law enforcement has been raised to a new level; traffic accidents from 2003 to 2012 continuously decreased in all three criteria of number of cases, number of deaths, number of injuries. Nghe An is one of the localities highly appreciated by the Government and the National Traffic Safety Committee. However, the situation of traffic accidents and violations of traffic safety and order in the area is still complicated. Traffic accidents have decreased but not really sustainable. The damage to people and property caused by traffic accidents is still high, and violations of traffic safety laws still occur frequently.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, comrade Huynh Thanh Dien sent his condolences to the individuals and families who had been involved in traffic accidents. He requested that all levels and sectors should enhance their leadership responsibilities and direct Party committees and authorities in directing and implementing the task of ensuring order and traffic safety; promote the dissemination and education of traffic safety laws to the people in various forms; effectively implement the solutions of the Government and the province to curb the increase and gradually reduce traffic accidents and traffic congestion, bringing confidence and happiness to the people.
