MU does not sell Garnacho to Chelsea to avoid fan "storm"
A swap deal between Alejandro Garnacho and Christopher Nkunku has failed to materialise, following speculation during the winter transfer window.

The final decision was made as Manchester United feared a backlash from fans, especially given the team's shaky form.
Before the winter transfer window closed, both Manchester United and Chelsea considered swapping Alejandro Garnacho and Christopher Nkunku in search of a change in attack when both players had not achieved the expected stability at their new teams. Accordingly, Chelsea showed special interest in Garnacho, willing to pay the £65 million price offered by Man United, Garnacho was said to be open to joining Chelsea and his agent also appeared at Stamford Bridge.
However, Manchester Evening News reported that MU decided to keep Garnacho because of concerns about the wave of protests from fans. Garnacho is considered an important factor in coach Ruben Amorim's plan to rebuild the team, so it will be very difficult to convince fans to agree to let the Argentine player go to Chelsea and bring many consequences both in terms of expertise and the image of the club. In addition to Chelsea, Napoli also made an offer of 42 million pounds but was quickly rejected.
Coach Amorim highly appreciates Garnacho's talent and emphasizes his importance in the current Man United squad. With his somewhat erratic form this season, the decision to let Garnacho stay is considered to be much more beneficial for Man United compared to recruiting a player who is having many difficulties in demonstrating his value and has not yet been able to adapt to the Premier League environment.
More realistically, at a time when the squad is in disarray and there is fierce competition, the coach has the right to decide which stars to build the team around and what long-term direction for the club so that the team can have a chance to return to its glory days. The coach's determination to protect his students partly shows a united team and will support the team's future development strategy well. Although, initially, Garnacho also had disciplinary problems in mid-December 2024, when, along with Marcus Rashford, he violated the regulations set by the club, causing him to sit out several important matches. But while his teammate was going downhill, the Argentine player chose to stay silent, tried to train better and thanks to that, he soon regained the trust of the coach. The important thing is always to prove everything on the field, then all efforts will become meaningful.
Since the beginning of the season, Garnacho has scored 8 goals and had 6 assists in all competitions. The decision to keep Garnacho shows that MU is betting on the future of this young player, when the young midfielder himself is playing a pivotal role in aiming for the top scorers. However, MU is currently only ranked 13th in the Premier League table.
