In particular, for Physics, Manh got 16.6 points, won first prize, only 0.2 points less than the province's valedictorian. As for the second prize in Mathematics, this was a completely unexpected result because in the Math team of Nguyen Duy Trinh High School, Manh was the last candidate to be called.

Manh has been passionate about Physics since his junior high school years at Quan Hanh Town Junior High School because he liked the engaging lectures of teacher Nguyen Thanh Tuan. In grade 9, Manh was also on the school team to participate in the Provincial Excellent Student Competition. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the exam was postponed and Manh did not have the opportunity to demonstrate his ability. In the entrance exam to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Manh's specialized score was quite good, but he did not pass because his English background score did not meet expectations.

Talking about Manh, teacher Tran Dinh Hieu - Physics teacher shared: When Manh first entered grade 10, after only 1 week of studying, I paid attention to him because in class he listened attentively to lectures and liked to ask teachers about problems that he did not understand. Even when Manh did his homework and did not understand the lesson, he still stayed up until 2 or 3 am to text the teacher. Seeing his passion, in my mind I wanted to choose Manh for the team, because in reality, to study well, students must like the subject. Later, during the review process, many times his studies were interrupted due to the Covid-19 epidemic, but even though it was online review, Manh still seriously followed the teacher's instructions and by November, Manh had shown a breakthrough thinking compared to his teammates. Manh did well in almost every test. For the questions that the teacher gave, Manh always had a new, creative way of solving them, beyond the teacher's thinking.

Not only did he do well in Physics, teacher Dinh Xuan Luyen - the Math teacher - was also particularly impressed with Manh because he had good qualities and thinking. Talking about this, teacher Luyen added: In the Math team, Manh was one of two students that I had high expectations for. Unfortunately, time was tight, Manh was studying for two subjects at the same time so he could not invest much and there were times when we had to consider because we were afraid it would affect his studies. However, Manh was still determined to pursue and he did not disappoint his teachers.

Taking two exams at the same time put Manh under a lot of pressure. Therefore, after finishing the exam, Manh had many regrets about his test results. Talking about this, Manh added: When doing the Physics test, I was so nervous that I got an easy question wrong in the first few questions. When doing the test, I also often got stuck on difficult exercises so I didn't have time to review my work, so I lost points on some unfortunate questions.

Must learn to overcome circumstances

Manh's family lives in block 6, Quan Hanh town. Manh's family has 3 siblings. Before, Manh's older sister passed the entrance exam to Hanoi Law University but could not go to school because of difficult circumstances. Later, her older sister went to Japan as an export laborer. Even though she was far away, she always texted and called Manh to encourage him to study hard, "to study more for her too."

Six years ago, Manh's father was working in construction and had an accident at work, injuring his spine and unable to walk, and the difficulties of Manh's family multiplied. There was a time when the whole family lived solely on the vegetables that his mother grew in the garden and brought to Vinh market to sell. At this time, Manh's father's health improved, but because his back could not recover, he could only work as a security guard at a bank near his home. Family life was still extremely difficult.

Perhaps understanding his family's circumstances, during his 12 years of high school, Manh was always aware of the need to overcome difficulties. He studied all subjects on his own and rarely went to extra classes. Manh's two brothers also encouraged each other and supported each other in studying so as not to waste their parents' money. Before the exam day, Manh always kept in mind his father's words: Neither father nor mother could go to school, so we will try to give you a full education and you will also try to study well...

With the first prize in Physics and the second prize in Mathematics at the Provincial Excellent Student Competition for Grade 12, Manh seems to have partly fulfilled his wish, he is very close to entering university. Manh also dreams that in the future he will study Information Technology to fulfill his passion and soon succeed, have a stable job so as not to disappoint his parents, teachers and family.
