A group of four US senators called on the Donald Trump administration and the Interpol General Assembly to oppose the candidacy of Russian Police Major General Alexander Prokopchuk, one of the candidates for the position of head of Interpol.

"Interpol, if it chooses Major General Alexander Prokopchuk as its new director, would be like letting a fox into a henhouse," the document, published on Senator Roger Vicker's website, reads.

According to the co-signers of the motion, Russia uses Interpol to spy on accounts and harass political opponents, and Mr Prokopchuk supports this. “For these reasons, we call on all 192 members… to vote against Mr Prokopchuk,” the petition reads.
