Woman sentenced to 12 years in prison for activities aimed at overthrowing the government
On the afternoon of September 30, An Giang Provincial People's Court held the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tien (46 years old, residing in Chau Doc City) for the crime of "Activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government".
According to the indictment, around April 2017, defendant Ngoc Tien used the Facebook account "Van Nguyen" to participate in forums of the organization "Provisional National Government of Vietnam".
After that, defendant Ngoc Tien was persuaded, enticed, and guided by a subject to join the organization "Provisional National Government of Vietnam".

By 2020, defendant Ngoc Tien used a Facebook account named "Nguyen Tuyen" and the organization continued to change the password for this woman to operate.
Defendant Ngoc Tien was assigned the task of mobilizing many people to join the organization; participating in the "referendum" to elect Dao Minh Quan as President of the Third Republic of Vietnam and providing the organization with information about the political and internal situation in the country.
From 2018 to February 2022, while working for hire in Binh Duong province and Ho Chi Minh City, defendant Ngoc Tien enticed, mobilized, and enticed 225 people in many localities with difficult circumstances to provide personal information and relatives so that organizations in the US could consider giving gifts, houses, money, and creating jobs...
The purpose of defendant Ngoc Tien was to obtain information from these people and arbitrarily register to participate in the "referendum" to elect Dao Minh Quan.
In addition, defendant Ngoc Tien also sewed a three-striped flag to wave when Dao Minh Quan returned to Vietnam to establish the Republic of Vietnam regime.
On February 16, 2022, defendant Tien surrendered to the An Giang Provincial Police Security Investigation Agency and admitted to participating in the reactionary organization "Provisional National Government of Vietnam" with the aim of overthrowing the people's government.
On February 25, the Investigation Security Agency of An Giang Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and issue an order to temporarily detain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tien.
During the investigation and at court, defendant Ngoc Tien honestly confessed his crime and asked for a reduced sentence.
The panel sentenced defendant Ngoc Tien to 12 years in prison for "Activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government" and continued to place him under probation for 4 years from the date he completed his prison sentence.
