Only 1.27 m tall, Khanh Xuan never believed she would have a partner, until she heard an American man call her "wife" during their first meeting at the airport.

The love story of the strong-willed disabled girl Pham Thi Khanh Xuan and the kind-hearted American man is proof that the power of love can bring together even seemingly insurmountable differences. Currently, Ms. Xuan is living with her husband, Mr. Freddie Scott, born in 1963, in Missouri, USA.

Little girl Pham Thi Khanh Xuan shared that she never dared to dream of a happy family life until she met her American husband.

Having an umbilical infection at birth, Khanh Xuan, from Dong Nai, had to take a lot of medicine, and due to malnutrition due to her poor family, she suffered from rickets. Being stunted and having difficulty walking, she was often teased and even beaten by her friends during her school years. When she was 8 years old, her mother passed away, leaving her father to raise 6 children alone, so Khanh Xuan often had to stay with relatives while her father went to the city to earn money.

"Luckily, God still gave me a head with a little bit of will, always reminding me to try to study and be independent. I buried myself in studying, hoping to get a university degree to get a stable job to support myself," Khanh Xuan recalled.

After graduating from university, the girl weighing only 27 kg found a job and struggled to make a living in Saigon. "With a low salary and living in a rented house, I have been struggling in this city for more than ten years, worrying about tomorrow and eating today. My youth has passed without me knowing. Looking at my friends of the same age who have husbands and children, I feel sorry for myself but I don't dare to dream because I know I am different from them," she said.

At the end of 2013, a friend introduced Xuan to a part-time job posting ads for an American boss named Freddie, who specialized in carpets and used cars. This was the turning point in her life. At that time, her father had a stroke, so she quit her main job to return to her hometown, working part-time online while taking care of her father. In this part-time job, she often had to communicate with her boss in the US via the internet. At first, the two only talked about work, then they often shared about life and family.

"When he proposed, I was extremely surprised and thought 'he must be teasing or joking, or has some bad intentions' because I had heard many cases of love scams online," Ms. Xuan said.

During the following period, every time the boss mentioned love, she kept quiet, only answering when he asked about other things. However, after listening to him talk about his work, his past, his broken family, and his only child who died shortly after birth... she realized that he was a very emotional and serious person, so she gradually opened her heart. The two started calling each other online, and he even introduced her to his friends, colleagues, and family. She also often received fresh flowers and gifts from him.

The most memorable day for the two was probably May 11, 2014 - when he flew from the US to Vietnam to meet her. "As soon as we met at Tan Son Nhat airport, he walked up to me and hugged me and called out "My wife". My family and I were extremely surprised, because how could he dare to do it publicly in a crowded place like that without any embarrassment, especially with a girl like me. I could only stay silent in his arms and was about to cry because of happiness and emotion", the 35-year-old woman shared.

In the following days, Freddie introduced Khanh Xuan to everyone he met as his wife. He always appeared proud and happy when he was with her, telling her, "I'm so lucky to have you, you're the most beautiful woman," erasing the inferiority complex of his girlfriend, who was as small as a primary school student. A week after their first meeting, they held their engagement ceremony.

The time that followed was also a test for both of them when Ms. Xuan fell ill and had to be hospitalized. The Vietnamese girl thought this might discourage the American man, but on the contrary, he loved and cared for her even more. Every day, he carried her from the hospital to a nearby motel because he didn't want her to be in a crowded place where she could easily catch another disease.

In early 2015, the couple got married and Ms. Xuan followed her husband to the US. "Everything came like a dream. I never thought I would have a family life like this," Ms. Xuan said.

Ms. Khanh Xuan was surprised and happy to be pregnant with twins.

Her happiness was even more complete when she learned that she was pregnant. "I was too young. My husband was old, so we didn't have much hope for children, although we both loved children and wanted to have children's laughter in the house. When I found out I was pregnant, I cried with joy and called my husband right away. He was working far away and rushed home to be with his wife," Ms. Xuan recalled.

In the first few months of pregnancy, morning sickness combined with not being used to the harsh cold weather, her health and spirit declined. Loving his wife, her husband always tried to come home early no matter how busy he was. He took care of everything in the house, from cleaning the house, cooking, doing the laundry to washing the dishes... Whatever she craved, he would try to buy for his wife, sometimes having to travel dozens of kilometers to find Vietnamese food. "Every morning before work, he reminded me to drink milk, take vitamins, and when he came home in the evening, he massaged my feet, hands, and back because he felt sorry for me because I had arthritis, so the cold season was very uncomfortable," the wife affectionately said.

Ms. Khanh Xuan shared that the more she is with her husband, the more she loves and respects him for his sense of responsibility, diligence, sincerity, and especially his affection and kindness.

When she found out she was pregnant with twin boys, the couple was both happy and worried. Now in her 25th week of pregnancy, she has been hospitalized for care and monitoring. "If nothing changes, my husband and I will be able to meet the two babies at week 34, thanks to a cesarean section. I just feel sorry for the two babies in my small womb, so it must be very cramped," the mother shared.
