Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Truong Hoa Binh has just issued an official dispatch requesting localities and relevant units to ensure traffic order and safety during the remaining peak days of the Lunar New Year and the 2018 spring festival season.

According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, during the peak period of ensuring traffic order and safety (TT-ATGT) and transportation activities to serve the Lunar New Year 2018, the National Traffic Safety Committee highly appreciated the efforts of agencies, units and enterprises participating in ensuring traffic order and safety to serve people's convenient and safe travel. However, the traffic accident situation is still very complicated, with an average of 31 deaths per day (an increase of 2 people compared to the Lunar New Year holiday 2017).

The main causes of traffic accidents are violations of traffic safety regulations such as: driving after drinking alcohol, speeding, not wearing helmets when riding motorbikes; running red lights; carrying more people than the prescribed number; most traffic accidents involve motorbike and scooter drivers; traffic accidents mainly occur in rural areas, outside urban areas; authorities still show signs of deference and are not decisive in handling violations.

To ensure traffic safety during the remaining peak days of the Lunar New Year and the 2018 spring festival season, Deputy Prime Minister - Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Truong Hoa Binh requested ministries, branches and Traffic Safety Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to strengthen the direction of drastic implementation of Official Dispatch No. 1882/CD-TTg dated December 8, 2017 of the Prime Minister on ensuring traffic safety during the New Year, Lunar New Year and the 2018 spring festival season, focusing on the following solutions:

1. Direct the provincial and municipal police forces to mobilize the maximum number of traffic police forces to coordinate with other police forces (public order police, mobile police, communal police) and traffic inspection forces to step up patrols, control, detect and strictly and thoroughly handle violations of traffic safety and order, without leniency or leniency, including: Violations of regulations on alcohol concentration, speeding, not wearing helmets, running red lights, carrying more people than prescribed, illegally increasing fares; increase patrols and controls on national highways, provincial and district roads, and rural roads. Arrange forces to ensure smooth and safe traffic for people returning to the city at the end of the Lunar New Year holiday; especially on traffic routes towards Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and key and complex traffic areas such as airports, train stations, and bus stations; handle, regulate and promptly resolve incidents and traffic accidents to avoid prolonged traffic congestion.

2. The transport sector shall strengthen inspection and supervision of road, rail, inland waterway and air transport activities; be on duty 24/7 to promptly handle people's complaints about traffic safety violations and traffic congestion via hotlines; require toll stations to release the station for vehicles to circulate when there is a traffic jam of more than 700 m.

3. Central and local media agencies, especially television and radio stations, and grassroots broadcasting systems, should increase propaganda and mobilize people to raise their awareness of traffic safety and comply with traffic laws, emphasizing absolute compliance with the regulation "don't drive if you drink alcohol"; do not speed or overtake recklessly; do not carry more people than the prescribed number; wear helmets when riding motorbikes, scooters, and electric bicycles; collect the correct fare; use life-saving equipment when using inland waterway vehicles; pay attention to safety when crossing railway crossings.

4. Strengthen measures to ensure traffic safety, organize and guide convenient and safe traffic in areas where large-scale 2018 spring festivals are held with many visitors./.
