(Baonghean)On February 22nd and 23rd (the 20th and 21st of the first lunar month), Quynh Luu district (Nghe An province) organized the Corn Temple Festival and inaugurated Quynh Luu Tourism 2011 in Quynh Phuong commune.

According to historical records, the temple was built in 1235 during the Tran Dynasty in Phuong Can village, now Quynh Phuong commune. The temple is dedicated to the Holy Mother and the Four Holy Maidens – revered as goddesses who protect and bless the people, ensuring their prosperity and helping them overcome dangers. They have also repeatedly assisted the Tran and Le dynasties' armies in safely crossing the sea.

Cờn Temple is one of the four most sacred temples in Nghe An province, known as "First Cờn, second Quả, third Mã, fourth Trưng". Cờn Temple was classified as a National Historical and Cultural Monument by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in 1993.

This year, the festival officially opened on the evening of February 22nd, but many activities took place earlier in the day, such as a beach volleyball tournament, folk games: human chess, tug-of-war, stick pushing, costume parades, and boat races on the Mai Giang River.

On the main day of the festival, January 21st, starting at 6 am, the traditional procession of the Holy Mother was reenacted from the Inner Temple to the Outer Temple (at Quynh Phuong beach), also known as the "running and vomiting" custom, a unique feature only found at the Corn Temple festival and the fishing prayer ceremony at sea. The festival concluded with a grand ceremony and thanksgiving at Corn Temple, praying for a year of calm weather, peaceful seas, abundant seafood catches, and blessings for prosperity and peace.
