Trafficking in explosives, sentenced to 24 months in prison

(Baonghean) -The People's Court of Thai Hoa town has just tried defendant Nguyen Duc Trung (born in 1952, residing in Xuan Tho hamlet, Nghia My commune, Thai Hoa town) for the crime of illegal trading of explosives.

According to the testimony of defendant Nguyen Duc Trung, in early March 2011, a woman who introduced herself as Hoa (Trung did not know her name or address) came to see Trung to discuss buying explosives for personal consumption. After Trung agreed, Hoa gave Trung a deposit of 840 thousand VND.

After receiving the money, Nguyen Duc Trung rode his motorbike to the Quynh Xuan quarry in Quynh Luu district to buy explosives. There, Trung bought 18 kg of explosives, 3 boxes of fuses, and 3 slow-burning wires and brought them home to hide. On March 14, 2011, Trung continued to the Quynh Xuan quarry in Quynh Luu district and bought 40 kg of explosives. After buying them, Trung drove them to Khe Lau area, the border between Nghia Thuan commune and Nghia My commune, Thai Hoa town, hid 40 kg of explosives in a rock cavity by the roadside and then went home.

On the afternoon of March 15, 2011, Trung rode his motorbike to the area where the explosives were hidden to transport them back to sell for profit. On the way home, at the gate of the Nghia My Commune Health Station, Thai Hoa Town, he was caught red-handed by the Nghe An Provincial Police Security Investigation Team while transporting 40 kg of explosives. The Provincial Police Security Investigation Team ordered an emergency search of Nguyen Duc Trung's residence, discovering and seizing 18 kg of explosives, 300 detonators, and 150 meters of slow-burning wire.

At the trial, after fully considering the evidence and documents examined, the results of the debate, the opinions of the prosecutor and the defendant; based on the provisions of the Penal Code, the panel sentenced Nguyen Duc Trung to 24 months in prison.

As for the subjects involved in the case, the security investigation agency is continuing to investigate and clarify.
