Using a hunting rifle to settle a dispute results in a 36-month prison sentence.

On January 16th, the Provincial People's Court held a first-instance trial for the crime of "murder" against the defendant Nguyen The Luong (born in 1974), residing in Block 3, Cua Ward.MaleAccording to the indictment, due to a previous conflict, at approximately 8:30 PM on May 6, 2011, Nguyen The Luong went to Pham Huu Tan's house to mediate, but failed. A further conflict then arose, leading Tan, Pham Huu Hanh (Tan's older brother), and several others to Luong's house. They threw bricks and stones at the house and destroyed the fence. Luong, standing on the roof, used a .12 caliber pistol to shoot at Tan's group, seriously injuring Hanh. The court sentenced Tan to 36 months in prison and ordered him to pay 60 million VND in compensation to Hanh's family.

Robbery, motorbike set on fire.

At approximately 6 PM on January 15th, in Hamlet 11, Van Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, Ms. Hoang Thi Huong (born in 1975), residing in Van Thanh Commune, was accosted by two individuals on a motorbike who snatched her gold earrings (weighing 1 tael each) worth 4.2 million VND. Ms. Huong shouted for help, and bystanders surrounded and apprehended one suspect, Bui Minh Hieu (born in 1991), residing in Hamlet 5, Yen Thanh Town. The other suspect fled on the motorbike. Outraged by the incident, the local people burned the suspects' Wave Alpha motorbike and tied up Hieu, handing him over to the commune and district police for investigation. The district police quickly investigated and identified the remaining suspect as Phan Doan Hai (born in 1988), residing in Hamlet 4, Yen Thanh Town, who has a criminal record. The district police are currently pursuing his arrest.

At 8 PM on January 14th, in Hamlet 4, Nghi Phong Commune, Nghi Loc District, Ms. Phung Thi Van (born in 1975), residing in Hamlet 4, Nghi Phong Commune, was jogging when she was forced to the side of the road by five individuals on two motorbikes. They threatened her with knives and stole a gold necklace and a pair of gold earrings, worth approximately 20 million VND in total. The Nghi Loc District Police are investigating the case.
