According to AFP, the film was screened on International Earth Day (April 22) in more than 160 countries and at the United Nations General Assembly, featuring diverse content about nature and humanity. This includes scenes of grand parades in North Korea, acrobats begging for food in Peru, and a Brazilian woman obsessed with watches. According to CNET, the film also highlights the close connection between humans and nature, as well as issues such as environmental waste and poverty.
The producers of the project "A Day on Earth" also stated that this 105-minute film was shot by 19,000 filmmakers – both professional and amateur. Over 3,000 hours of footage were recorded from around the world on October 10, 2010. Mobile technology and inexpensive cameras allowed filmmakers to capture unique images rarely seen on screen.
The project has received support from the United Nations and dozens of other non-profit organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund and the Ford Foundation. Last year, a fundraising event for this project took place on November 11th. This year, the third fundraising event will be held on December 12th.
