Rescue of a sand truck that overturned in a rice field, causing serious traffic jam on Highway 1A bypass, through Vinh City. While waiting for authorities to clear the road, 3 trucks collided with each other, trapping one driver in the cabin for half an hour.

At around 6pm on May 26, a sand truck with license plate 37V-3437 was traveling on the National Highway 1A bypass, passing through Vinh City (in the area of Ky hamlet, Hung Tay commune, Hung Nguyen, Nghe An) in the South - North direction when it suddenly lost control and crashed into a rice field. Before "settling" in the field, the truck had knocked down 3 milestones. The cause of this accident, according to witnesses, was that the truck tried to avoid a passenger bus going the wrong way while the road was too narrow due to being under repair.

At 9 p.m., the authorities proceeded to lift the truck onto the road. Lifting the damaged vehicle caused serious traffic congestion on this road section. To clear the congestion, the Traffic Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police and the Traffic Police Team of Hung Nguyen District Police mobilized forces to the scene. At 10 p.m., the traffic congestion became even more serious because of the large number of vehicles jammed at both ends of the area where the sand truck overturned.

At 10:30 p.m., while the authorities were struggling to regulate traffic, another accident occurred about 500 meters from where the sand truck overturned. At that time, the truck with license plate 30M - 8671 was stopping and waiting for the road to be cleared when it was suddenly hit from behind by truck 36L - 9252. The impact was so strong that the 30M - 8671 crashed into the back of the 92C - 007.81 parked in front. As a result, the 92C - 007.81 was severely damaged in the rear, while the 30M - 8671 was crumpled in the front. The driver of the 30M - 8671 was injured and trapped in the cabin. After the strong collision with the rear of the 30M - 8671 truck, the 36L - 9252 truck was severely damaged in the front.

With the help of local people, the authorities had a hard time rescuing the driver who was trapped in the cabin. After 30 minutes of effort, the driver was pulled out of the cockpit with a broken leg.

By 24:00, the traffic jam had not been resolved and was getting worse. Hundreds of trucks were almost stuck in place. The jam stretched for nearly 10km, from Nghi Loc district to the intersection between National Highway 1A and National Highway 46 (in Hung Nguyen town).
