US: 98-car train derailed and caught fire

US officials said on the morning of July 11, a freight train derailed and caught fire in Columbus, Ohio, forcing nearby residents to evacuate.


Mr. Michael Fowler of the Fire BrigadeColumbustold reporters that at least one car of the freight trainNorfolkSouthern has exploded.

Some of the cars were carrying styrene chemicals and others were carrying “alcohol,” Fowler said, adding that more than 100 people had been evacuated and the cause of the accident was unclear.


Meanwhile, media reported that 11 cars of the 98-car train derailed and at least two people were injured after the freight cars caught fire.
