Border talks between Nghe An Border Guard and Xieng Khouang Provincial Military Police (Laos)
(Baonghean.vn) -On June 20, in Vinh City, a border protection work discussion took place between the delegation of Nghe An Border Guard (Vietnam) and the Military Police Delegation of Xieng Khouang Province (Laos). The Nghe An Border Guard delegation was led by Colonel Hoang Ngoc Nam - Deputy Commander of Nghe An Border Guard, and the Xieng Khouang Military Police Delegation was led by Lieutenant Colonel Bun La Phan Xu Na Pheng.
Overview of the meeting
At the meeting, with sincere, united and open feelings, the two sides discussed the border situation in the past time and the results of coordination in managing and protecting the sovereignty and security of the national border between Nghe An and Xieng Khouang provinces. The functional forces in Nghe An and Laos have coordinated to make the border of the two provinces a peaceful, friendly and cooperative border. The two sides have increased coordination in patrolling and protecting the border, preventing activities that violate the agreement on national border regulations; regularly informed each other and exchanged information related to the activities of hostile forces, all kinds of crimes, especially crimes of trafficking and transporting drugs and wildlife across the border, illegal logging, and the return of illegal migrants across the border.

At the meeting, the two sides also pointed out the limitations that need to be overcome, such as: The coordination of bilateral patrols to protect border markers is still limited; the notification to each other about the activities of various types of criminals is not regular; the regular meetings between local authorities at district and commune levels and functional forces on both sides of the border are not regular; the ad hoc meetings and notifications and information exchanges between functional forces are often not timely.
At the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on effectively implementing the tasks of building, managing and protecting the border in the coming time.
