The Ministry of Public Security dismantled a football betting ring and the largest weapons cache of the Euro tournament.

A massive football betting ring, which also stockpiled a large number of firearms to collect debts, has been dismantled by authorities.

On June 28th, the Criminal Investigation Department for Social Order (C45, Ministry of Public Security) announced that it had coordinated with the Department of High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control (C50, Ministry of Public Security), the Hanoi City Police, and the Bac Ninh Provincial Police to dismantle a massive inter-provincial football betting ring led by Pham Van Cuong (born in 1979, residing in Ly Dao Thanh, Tu Son Town, Bac Ninh Province).

Colonel Ho Sy Tien, Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department for Social Order Crimes (C45, Ministry of Public Security), stated that, in implementing the plan to combat the special case codenamed BN 124, at approximately 8:00 AM on June 28th, the police carried out an urgent arrest and search warrant for the act of organizing online football betting against Pham Van Cuong and six others.

According to investigators, this is a large and highly violent football betting ring with many firearms.

Including: Ngo Van Dang (residing in To Hien Thanh, Tu Son town, Bac Ninh); Le Van Nhuan (residing in Dong Quang, Tu Son town, Bac Ninh); Dao Ngoc Linh (residing in Ninh Hiep, Gia Lam, Hanoi); Vo Thanh Tam (residing in Bach Dang ward, Ha Ba Trung district, Hanoi); Nguyen Minh Tu (residing in Hoang Van Thu ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi); Do Nghiem Thanh An (residing in Van Quan urban area, Ha Dong district, Hanoi).

Specifically, the investigating agency seized 6 vehicles of various types, 8 guns (1 sniper rifle, 2 hunting rifles, 3 Colt pistols, 2 tear gas guns), hundreds of rounds of ammunition corresponding to the types of guns, 10 knives and swords of various types, 3 multi-purpose batons, 470 million VND and 2,600 USD, 17 mobile phones, 3 fax machines, 8 laptops, and 6 credit cards worth billions of VND….

The cars were seized.

The fax machine was seized from a gambling ring.

According to Colonel Ho Sy Tien, this gambling ring is very large, with a wide network. These individuals receive bets from overseas (first-level agents), then distribute them through lower-level agents and "subordinates" who collect bets from gamblers and transfer them to them. Significantly, the ringleaders are very influential and are ready to use firearms to collect gambling debts from gamblers when necessary.

With this massive arsenal of weapons, the members of this ring are ready to "deal with" any gamblers who are unable to repay their debts.

Initially, at the investigative agency, those arrested confessed to their crimes and are being held in custody to clarify their involvement in: gambling, organizing gambling, and illegal possession of weapons.

Authorities are currently continuing their investigation to clarify the amount of betting money this network received and transferred for each match.
