China arrests Vietnamese fishing boat
On the afternoon of July 9, the People's Committee of Pho Thanh Commune, Duc Pho District (Quang Ngai) sent a report to the authorities about China's arrest of many fishing boats of local fishermen while they were fishing in the waters of the Hoang Sa archipelago.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Trinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Pho Thanh Commune, said that the local government also requested central ministries and branches to intervene so that China could soon release the fishing boats, so that fishermen could have the means to practice their trade, stabilize their lives and feel secure fishing in the Hoang Sa waters.
Fishermen's families are worried after hearing that China has detained many fishing boats.
According to Mr. Trinh, through inspection and verification, there were 4 fishing boats of fishermen in Thanh Duc 2 village, Pho Thanh commune, including 2 fishing boats of Mr. Tran Minh Giu (57 years old) including: QNg-94484 TS, capacity of 360 CV, captained by Mr. Tran Minh Khiem (29 years old), with 7 fishermen on board; QNg-98648 TS, capacity of 150 CV, captained by Mr. Vo Quoc Viet (24 years old), with 4 fishermen on board; QNg-94779 TS, capacity of 125 CV and QNg-94096 TS, capacity of 180 CV captained by two brothers Luc Nghia Minh (33 years old) and Luc Nghia Thanh (30 years old) with a total of 8 fishermen. On the afternoon of July 6, while fishing in the Hoang Sa fishing ground, all 4 of these fishing boats were captured by Chinese ships. On July 8, China released fishing boats QNg-98648 TS and QNg-94096 TS and 19 fishermen to return home.
According to the report of Pho Thanh Commune People's Committee, on July 2, fishing boats QNg-94411 TS (125 CV capacity) and QNg-44867 TS, captained by brothers Nguyen Duy Nam (26 years old) and Nguyen Duy Viet (28 years old, both from Thanh Duc 2 village), while working in the Hoang Sa sea area, fisherman Vo Ngoc Thach (43 years old) unfortunately suffered a traumatic brain injury. The two fishing boats immediately headed to Hainan Island (China) to provide emergency aid to fisherman Thach. On the afternoon of July 4, the Chinese side sent fishing boat QNg-44867 TS carrying Mr. Thach and 10 fishermen back, but took fishing boat QNg-94411 TS.
