Nghe An - Xieng Khouang Investment Promotion Conference
(Baonghean.vn)- To celebrate the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2012, and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, this morning, August 25, 2012, in Cua Lo town, the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the People's Committee of Xieng Khouang province jointly organized a conference to promote investment in Xieng Khouang province.
Attending the conference from the Lao side were: Comrade Somkot Mangnomek, Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Secretary and Governor of Xieng Khouang Province; Bunthavisi Suphanthong, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Laos; and Dr. Maydikham Phucduongkeo, Director of the Department of Science and Technology and Vice Chairman of the Investment Promotion Committee of Xieng Khouang Province. From the Vietnamese side were: Comrade Dao Quang Thu, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Comrade Ho Duc Phoc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of various departments, agencies, districts, and cities.

In his welcoming remarks, the Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, Ho Duc Phoc, stated that to date, 20 projects by Nghe An businesses have invested in Xieng Khouang with a total registered capital of 7.9 million USD in the fields of agriculture, mineral exploitation and processing, and tourism, including 6 projects invested in Xieng Khouang. Many Nghe An businesses investing in Laos have been successful, contributing to the socio-economic development of both provinces and further strengthening the friendship between the two neighboring countries. According to a statement by Comrade Somkot Mangnomek, Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Secretary-Governor of Xieng Khouang Province, there are currently 11 Vietnamese investment projects in Xieng Khouang with a total registered capital of approximately 150 million USD. This ranks Xieng Khouang 6th among the 17 provinces in Laos with investment activities from Vietnamese businesses and is the leading province in Northern Laos in attracting investment capital from Vietnam. These projects focus on hydropower, agriculture, forestry, and hotel services. He also highlighted Xieng Khouang's potential and strengths, particularly its tourism, history, and agriculture, for businesses to explore.
