(Baonghean) -After nearly 10 years at sea, understanding the hardships of fishermen, after having capital, he switched to trading in fresh seafood. His family's private enterprise Phuong Danh buys and preserves tons of shrimp, fish, crab, and squid for local people every day, ensuring stable output and increasing product value. Fisherman Quynh Phuong considers Phuong Danh private enterprise as his "rear"...

Born and raised in a fishing family in Hong Thai hamlet (Quynh Phuong commune, Quynh Luu), at the age of 18, Dau Nhu Danh joined the army. In 1984, after completing his military service, he returned to join the Quyet Tien seafood exploitation cooperative. During this time, he realized that many types of seafood that fishermen exploited, preserved by traditional methods and sold in the district had low value, not commensurate with the effort put in. After studying the market demand in Vinh city, Hanoi and some other towns and cities, he decided to switch to the service of purchasing fresh seafood for export.

The business of Mr. Dau Nhu Danh, who is considered the rear of fishermen.

With the motto of both doing business and services while expanding production scale and market, constantly meeting the interests of fishermen and the practical needs of customers, he built 2 purchasing and preservation facilities in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring environmental hygiene at Cua Con fishing port, Quynh Phuong commune; 1 store providing necessities for fishermen on fishing boats, creating stable jobs every year for 15 to 20 workers with salaries from 2.5 to 6.5 million VND/person/month and seasonal workers from 25 to 35 people with salaries from 1.5 to 3.5 million VND/person/month.

He spent time learning about the experience of preserving fresh seafood in Cua Lo, Sam Son; researching documents and fully participating in training courses and vocational training courses on preserving and processing seafood for export organized by the Fisheries Extension Board and Farmers' Associations at all levels. From the knowledge and learning experience, he guided and passed on to fishermen so that they could grasp the preservation methods according to food hygiene and safety standards, so that the goods always ensure quality and can be sold at high prices. Thanks to that, the products caught by Quynh Phuong fishermen are not only consumed in the market in the district, Vinh city, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi but also exported to China, Laos and supplied to some freezing factories for export to other countries, so the value of the products and the increased income of fishermen compared to before amounted to hundreds of millions of VND.

In 2001, he was elected as the Chairman of the Hong Thai Village Farmers' Association. With his responsibility, when there was abundant capital, he decided to support fishing boats to help members and poor fishermen change their fishing profession, go offshore, have the conditions to apply advanced preservation methods and mobilize the establishment of a branch fund for poor members to borrow interest-free capital to invest in production. The branch initially had only 24 members, then other farmers voluntarily joined, with 102 members.

In 2008, he was elected as the Head of the Commune Fisheries Extension Committee. Taking on the new task, he struggled to find ways to increase the value of fishing and the efficiency of exploitation for fishermen. He mobilized fishermen in Quynh Phuong commune to switch from low-value light fishing, which affects aquatic resources, to bottom trawling, and from inshore fishing to offshore fishing to increase output and exploitation value; established 8 cooperative fishing groups and teams; organized training for captains and chief engineers, disseminated the Law of the Sea to fishermen, organized the planting of national flags on boats, coordinated to support in times of distress, cope with natural disasters, storms and floods, and contributed to protecting the security, order, and sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

Currently, his family has invested nearly 2 billion VND in 70 fishing boats; exchanging goods without interest. Every year, they buy from 230 to 270 tons of products for the people; help 2 to 3 households escape poverty by providing guidance on business experience, product preservation and processing, and lending capital without interest from 25 to 40 million VND/household/year. Ms. Giang Cu (Hong Thai village) said: “Previously, my family was a poor household in the commune. In 2011, Mr. Danh lent us nearly 30 million VND without interest, and guided us on how to do business. Now we have escaped poverty and become a well-off household. I am truly grateful to him...”

With his contributions to Quynh Phuong fishermen, Mr. Dau Nhu Danh was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Central Farmers' Association, the Provincial People's Committee, and many Certificates of Merit from the Provincial Farmers' Association, the Provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Center. He is a typical example of Nghe An to be recognized at the 2012 National Conference on Good Production and Business.
