The unit that drafted the circular selling meat for 8 hours will be disciplined.
According to Minister Cao Duc Phat, relevant individuals and units must review and take responsibility depending on the level.
On September 17, at a meeting on food safety control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Minister Cao Duc Phat said that he would discipline units and individuals involved in drafting Circular 33 (requiring meat to be sold within 8 hours) and 34 (requiring retail eggs to be sterilized, packaged, and labeled).
Minister Cao Duc Phat said: The Ministry has stopped the two circulars above, but not only that, the relevant units and individuals must review and take responsibility according to the level. This is a matter of responsibility for performing public duties. Depending on the level, there will be disciplinary action.
Previously, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Diep Kinh Tan signed a Decision to suspend the implementation of Circular No. 33/2012/TT-BNNPTNT regulating hygiene conditions to ensure food safety for establishments trading in fresh meat and edible animal by-products for food use. According to this Circular, meat and by-products stored at room temperature can only be sold within 8 hours after slaughter.
The Decision also suspends the validity of Circular No. 34/2012/TT-BNNPTNT dated July 20, 2012 of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development regulating hygiene conditions and ensuring food safety for establishments collecting, preserving and trading fresh poultry eggs for food use./.
