Police seized more than 20,000 counterfeit bags bearing the brands Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Coach, and shut down 37 locations where the bags were made and sold. The 73 suspects said they had produced and sold more than 960,000 bags.XinhuaThe authorities also seized 17 pieces of production equipment and 91 bank cards and accounts used to illegally receive and transfer money, the Ministry of Public Security said yesterday.

Local police in southern China's Guangdong province in January arrested a suspect surnamed Qian and several others responsible for large-scale production of counterfeit products bearing famous brands and exporting them to other countries.

China then exchanged information with the US Immigration Service and the US Navy, proposing a joint investigation. Chinese police later discovered that the suspects were operating illegal operations in the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian and Anhui. Qian was arrested in May while preparing to export a batch of counterfeit goods. Investigations showed that many of the items were destined for the US and the Middle East.

Before his arrest, Qian purchased a piece of land of more than three hectares in Anhui province for future illegal purposes.
