Pure fragrant rice 4

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Tram, Rice Research Institute (Hanoi University of Agriculture) said that Huong Com 4 is a purebred rice variety brought back by former Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Cong Tan to the Rice Research Institute for research and pure selection to develop production.

Huong Com 4 has strong growth, strong tillering, large and long flowers, small and long grains, spathe leaves, large photosynthetic area, so the ability to accumulate dry matter in the grain is high. In particular, Huong Com 4 rice is long and slender, not silvery, when milled, the breakage rate is very low, the percentage of white rice is 68 - 70%, suitable for export.

Through 2 production trials, it was determined that Huong Com 4 has a growing period of 105 - 110 days in the summer crop and 115 days in the spring crop. The yield is 5.5 - 6 tons/ha (summer crop) and 6 - 6.5 tons/ha (spring crop). Huong Com 4 is resistant to disease: In the 2010 summer crop, artificial infection with 5 strains of bacteria causing rice leaf blight disease was conducted. Huong Com 4 was found to be highly resistant to 4 strains and one strain was moderately resistant, much better than Bac Thom 7 which was infected with all 5 strains of bacteria causing leaf blight disease commonly found in the North.

However, Huong Com 4 has the disadvantage of being infected with brown planthoppers and grain rot disease, with average yield, and sticky, rich rice that is not fragrant. The Institute will select very strictly to maintain the fragrant line before expanding production.

Rice variety TH 3-7
TH3-7 is a 2-line medium-day hybrid rice variety, crossbred between the mother line T1S-96BB and the father line R7. The father line R7 was selected from the segregated population of the hybrid combination between Huong com 1 and R3, has large flowers, large long grains, fragrant rice, tall and hard plants, good pollen transfer ability, so the F1 hybrid grain yield is high.

TH3-7 is a hybrid rice variety with high yield potential. In the 2012 crop density and fertilizer experiment, the highest yield reached 8 tons/ha with the fertilization formula of 120 kg N + 90 kg P2O5 + 90 kg K20/ha with a density of 35 - 40 clumps/m2. However, due to the rather long growing period (125 days in the crop), it can be arranged on low-lying land to grow only 2 rice crops/year or in the spring crop. If a reasonable intensive farming process is ensured, this will be a very promising hybrid rice variety.

In particular, TH3-7 rice grains are 7 mm long, slender and clear, with a high ratio of milled rice and whole rice, and rich white rice with a fragrant aroma. The spring crop growing period is 125 - 130 days, so it should be arranged in the early tea of the late spring crop. The advantages of TH3-7 are high yield, strong and durable green leaves, the mother line T1s96 has been crossed with a leaf blight resistance gene from the isogenic line IRBB21.

After completing the F1 hybrid seed production process and launching it to the market in the near future, TH3-7 will become a super high-yield hybrid rice variety in the future.
