42 months in prison for property thief

(Baonghean.vn) -Just released from prison for 2 months, Doan Le Mai (born in 1985, residing in Hung Loc commune, Vinh city, Nghe An) continued to commit theft. Previously, Mai had 4 previous convictions for theft.

Mai’s two most recent thefts were committed in Vinh City. The first took place on March 13, 2012, in a row of boarding houses in Hung Dung Ward. While stealing a cell phone from a tenant, Mai was discovered and arrested by people in the boarding house.

At noon on June 18, Mai rode his motorbike into the Vinh University area, to the boarding house where Dong Van Dung (a student at Vinh University of Technical Education) lived, and seeing that no one was watching, Mai broke in and stole a computer worth 14 million VND. Being pursued by the police, on June 20, Mai surrendered to the police and returned the computer.

At the first instance trial held by the Provincial People's Court on November 19, the panel of judges found that the defendant's actions seriously affected social order and safety, violated other people's property, and was a repeat offender. They sentenced Doan Le Mai to 42 months in prison.
