Signing of memorandum of understanding on drug crime prevention and control between Vietnam and Laos
(Baonghean) -On January 29, in Cua Lo Town, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Force (Ministry of Public Security), the Drug Crime Prevention Department (Vietnam Border Guard Command) and the Drug Prevention Force of the Lao Ministry of Security held a conference on drug prevention and control.
Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Drug Crime Prevention Police Department (Ministry of Public Security); Major General Ngo Thai Dung, Director of the Drug Crime Prevention Department (Border Guard) and Colonel Kham Phon - Sy ha pan nha, Deputy Director General of the General Police Department (Lao Ministry of Security) chaired the conference.
Representatives of the two countries signed the memorandum of understanding.
Vietnam and Laos share a 2,067 km border with 10 provinces including 35 districts, 139 communes, 1 town of Vietnam bordering 10 provinces of Laos. In addition, the two countries also have 4 international border gates, 9 national border gates, 13 local border gates and thousands of other small-scale routes. Taking advantage of this feature, drug criminals organize the illegal buying and selling and transporting of drugs into Vietnam with increasingly sophisticated, cunning and very complicated tricks.
The conference evaluated and drew experiences in the fight against drug crimes in the past year and concluded that the situation of drug criminals, especially at the border between the two countries, continues to have complicated developments. Therefore, in the coming time, the drug prevention and control forces of the two countries need to coordinate more closely in the fields of drug prevention and control; perform well the core role in implementing the drug prevention and control agreement of the two governments of Vietnam and Laos. After 1 working day, the memorandum of understanding on the fight against drug crimes between representatives of the drug prevention force (Ministry of Public Security), the Drug Crime Prevention Department (Border Guard) and the drug prevention and control force (Lao Ministry of Security) was signed in an atmosphere of friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
