Passenger arrested for carrying more than 3 kg of drugs at Tan Son Nhat airport
Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department said that on February 24, Tan Son Nhat Airport Customs Branch discovered and arrested a case of transporting 3,162.7 grams of drugs through the airport.
Specifically, through checking the checked baggage of passenger Tran Minh Dat (Vietnamese nationality) checking in for a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney (Australia) on flight VN773, the authorities suspected illegal transportation of drugs across the border.
The export baggage clearance team asked Dat to bring all the luggage into the inspection room, where they discovered 12 nylon bags wrapped in yellow tape, covered with a layer of coffee on the outside, pressed thinly and hidden between two layers of cardboard of two cardboard boxes containing personal clothes, containing ivory-white powder with a total weight (including packaging) of 3,162.7 grams.
Through a quick test with some drug reagents, the sample taken from the white powder hidden in Dat's luggage tested positive for heroin. Immediately after that, the sample of the ivory-white powder was sent for examination at the Department of Science and Technology Examination (PC54) - Ho Chi Minh City Police. According to the preliminary examination results, the ivory-white powder is a heroin preparation.
According to VNA, after completing the procedure to record the arrest of the offender, all documents, evidence of violations and the subject were handed over by the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch to the Ho Chi Minh City Police for further investigation and handling.
