In 2013, the focus was on restructuring VNPT.
Following the conclusion of the VNPT inspection, the Ministry of Information and Communications will issue an official statement on the restructuring plan for the corporation.
On the morning of February 18th, at a meeting of officials from the Ministry of Information and Communications to celebrate the Lunar New Year of Quy Ty 2013, Deputy Minister Le Nam Thang stated that, based on the restructuring of VNPT, the Ministry will proceed with restructuring other telecommunications enterprises regardless of their governing body or ownership.
Previously, at the 2013 Task Implementation Conference held on December 24, 2012, Mr. Pham Long Tran, Chairman of the Board of Members of VNPT, stated that the restructuring model of VNPT Group had been submitted to the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Government, but there had been no response yet.
Mr. Tran argued that VNPT's biggest weakness is its long history and its model's unsuitability for the competitive environment and the demands of international economic integration. Therefore, VNPT wants the State management agency to provide a specific model framework because, in reality, business models are highly variable and require diverse approaches. He believes that requiring approval and consultation with numerous localities will hinder its ability to keep pace with reality and development.
Regarding VNPT's proposal, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son stated that the Ministry has not yet given an official response to the Government and VNPT on the VNPT restructuring plan because restructuring a business involves many important issues, including ensuring production and business operations adhere to the correct industry, and organizing the structure to suit the tasks, financial resources, and human resources.
The Prime Minister is currently conducting an inspection of VNPT, so the inspection's conclusions will contribute to a more accurate assessment of the group's restructuring. Therefore, after the Government Inspectorate announces the inspection findings of VNPT, the Ministry of Information and Communications will issue an official statement on the restructuring plan for this group.
