The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority announced that Phu Bai International Airport (Hue) will be temporarily closed for eight months, from March 20th to November 20th, for runway repairs.

Mr. Ngo Hoa, Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue province, has just announced that he has received a document from the Ministry of Transport regarding the temporary closure of Phu Bai airport. The airport will be closed from 00:01 on March 20th to 23:59 on November 20th.

On its website, the Civil Aviation Authority posted a directive instructing the Central Vietnam Aviation Authority and the Vietnam Airports Corporation to carry out runway repairs to ensure security, safety, and timely completion.

Currently, Phu Bai Airport, with its 2,700-meter-long runway, is in need of repair. According to the plan, by 2020, Phu Bai International Airport will meet the 4E standard, capable of handling 20 aircraft and 5 million passengers per year during peak hours.

This is the second time the airport has been closed. From May 13th to June 13th, 2012, Phu Bai Airport was closed for runway repairs and upgrades and was also disrupted by a bull infestation.
