"Watermelon planting festival" in Nghia Dan

(Baonghean.vn) -On January 12, in Nghia Dan district, Sygenta Vietnam Company organized the "Watermelon Growing Festival" with the participation of nearly 200 melon farmers and traders in Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces. Attending were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces.

This activity aims to create meetings, exchanges and find common ground between 4 parties (managers, farmers, seed suppliers and product consumers).



Popularizing watermelon growing techniques

With a short growing time, easy to grow and care for, and high economic efficiency, watermelon is one of the crops that enrich people in many localities in the province. However, in recent years, watermelon farmers often face many risks from a number of reasons such as concentrated planting seasons that cause product supply to exceed demand, over-dependence on the Chinese market, and low-quality products. Therefore, developing quality watermelon varieties to meet the increasing demand of the domestic and export markets is the goal that Syngenta company is aiming for.

Up to now, in Nghe An alone, 80% of households grow Syngenta melon varieties such as Super Hoan Chau, Phu Dong, SG227, Anh Duong, Red Sun seedless watermelon... These watermelon varieties all have high yield potential, short growing period of 60 - 65 days depending on the planting season, strong growth ability, good and stable yield, beautiful fruit shape, tangled grain and especially good quality, delicious and crispy, favored by consumers, sold at a price 10-15% higher than other melon varieties.

Along with developing watermelon growing areas, Syngenta also strives to connect with local traders to create a large and stable consumption market for watermelon products.
