According to the report of the National Traffic Safety Committee, the traffic order and safety situation nationwide in 2012 had a clear change. Nationwide, there were 36,376 cases, killing 9,838 people and injuring 38,060 people. Compared to the same period in 2011, there was a decrease of 7,446 cases (16.99%), a decrease of 1,614 deaths (14.09%), and a decrease of 9,529 injuries (20.02%). There were 4 provinces that reduced all 3 criteria of number of cases, number of deaths, number of injuries by over 30%, namely Vinh Phuc, Can Tho, Kien Giang, and Ha Tinh. In 2012, the traffic order and safety situation was initially re-established, achieving the target of reducing traffic accidents and traffic congestion. Traffic accidents had a positive change, with a deep decrease in all 3 criteria of number of cases, number of deaths, and number of injuries. However, accidents of a serious nature and level still occur and are complicated.
In our province, in 2012, there were 338 traffic accidents, killing 230 people and injuring 355 people. Compared to the same period in 2011, there were 51 fewer accidents (13.1%), 21 fewer deaths (8.3%), and 1 fewer injuries (0.28%). Of which, 13 localities had a decrease in the number of deaths compared to the same period last year. In particular, 5 localities including: Con Cuong, Ky Son, Quynh Luu, Tuong Duong, Do Luong had an increase in the number of deaths compared to the same period last year. However, the traffic order and safety situation in the province is still complicated, and some traffic accidents with serious consequences still occur.
The conference also heard reports from several localities on traffic safety and order, experiences in controlling traffic accidents and preventing traffic congestion; and recommendations on difficulties and obstacles faced by localities in implementation.
At the Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc commended a number of localities for their creative measures, which had a positive impact on the traffic situation, contributing to reducing all three criteria of the number of accidents, the number of deaths and the number of injuries. In 2012, many measures were implemented synchronously by localities and as a result, traffic accidents were reduced. However, in recent times, in some localities, there have been many particularly serious traffic accidents. The Deputy Prime Minister also requested that in the coming time, localities must seriously clarify the responsibilities of each level and each sector, and propose specific solutions to effectively implement traffic safety work.
The conference also approved the decision to award certificates of merit and rewards to local Traffic Safety Committees and collectives and individuals with achievements in ensuring traffic safety in 2012.
