The price of green-skin pomelos weighed at the garden in Ben Tre has continued to increase for about a month now and is currently at 35,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, nearly 10,000 VND/kg higher than the same time last year.

According to Mr. Dam Van Hung, Vice President of Ben Tre Green-Skin Grapefruit Association, the high price of grapefruit is due to the strong demand during Tet holiday. In addition, the rampant situation of grapefruit borers has caused a severe decline in output.

Green-skinned grapefruit prices increase before Tet.

Mr. Truong Van Hoa, a grapefruit farmer in Binh Hoa commune, Giong Trom district, said that his grapefruit garden of more than 10 hectares (equivalent to 10,000 m2 - PV) can yield about 2-3 tons of fruit during Tet. Many traders accept to pay a deposit to "make sure" they can buy the goods.

At Ben Tre market (Ward 2, Ben Tre city), other citrus fruits such as pomelos, oranges, lemons, and tangerines have also increased in price sharply in the past half month and prices are expected to be even higher in the days leading up to Tet.

Ben Tre's specialty fruits such as longan, rambutan, mango, coconut, pineapple coconut... have all increased in price sharply compared to the same period last year.
