(Baonghean.vn) -This afternoon, March 5, Inspection Team No. 2 of the National Traffic Safety Committee worked with the People's Committee of Nghe An province on strengthening measures to prevent increasing traffic accidents in Nghe An province.

Mr. Pham Quang Vinh - Deputy Director General of Vietnam Road Administration, Standing Member of the National Traffic Safety Committee led the delegation. Receiving the delegation were Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, leaders of relevant departments, branches and sectors.

According to the report of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, in the first 2 months of 2013, there were 71 traffic accidents in the province, killing 48 people and injuring 60 people, an increase of 6 cases compared to the same period in 2012. During the 9 days of Tet holiday alone, there were 14 traffic accidents, killing 13 people, an increase of 5 cases compared to the 2012 Tet holiday. The main causes of traffic accidents were that motor vehicle drivers did not control their speed, drove in the wrong lane, on the wrong side of the road, and drank alcohol while participating in traffic.

Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, spoke at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the attention and timely direction of the National Traffic Safety Committee on the traffic safety situation in the province. Through the meeting, the delegation, together with the Provincial Traffic Safety Steering Committee, analyzed and found the causes leading to the increase in traffic accidents, thereby proposing solutions to reduce traffic accidents. One of the main reasons is due to poor awareness of traffic participants, favorable weather conditions leading to increased traffic participants; in addition, the traffic infrastructure is degraded, especially on national highways; the traffic police force is not enough. Although the province has increased patrol and control forces in the past, accidents are still increasing. In the coming time, the province will resolutely direct and find appropriate solutions to curb traffic accidents in the area.

Working scene

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Pham Quang Vinh - Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Road Administration, Standing Member of the National Traffic Safety Committee, highly appreciated the drastic participation of agencies and departments of Nghe An province in ensuring traffic safety during the Lunar New Year. However, the implementation of the directive document of the Provincial People's Committee in some localities is still slow, violations of traffic safety laws are mainly due to drinking alcohol, not wearing helmets, speeding, reckless driving... The assignment of the scope of activities of patrol and control forces has not been closed to the area... He also requested the province to submit to the Government for direction on the implementation of the construction of a railway feeder system, especially through densely populated sections and urban areas. Regulations to simplify administrative procedures and reduce registration fees for cases of name change and ownership change when buying and selling vehicles. Propose that the Ministry of Transport stipulate that passenger cars operating from 300km or more must have 2 main drivers. Simplify the process of installing signs (no need for written approval from the General Department of Roads to be able to carry out construction).
