Traffic accidents decreased across all three criteria.
(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, January 18th, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to summarize the work on ensuring traffic safety and order in 2012 and to implement tasks for 2013. Attending the conference were Mr. Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee; representatives from provincial departments and agencies; and representatives from 20 districts, cities, and towns.
In 2012, the traffic safety situation in Nghe An province showed many positive changes, with traffic accidents decreasing across all three criteria: number of incidents, number of deaths, and number of injuries. Specifically, the province recorded 336 traffic accidents. Of these, 318 were road accidents resulting in 188 deaths and 347 injuries; 18 were railway accidents resulting in 17 deaths and 7 injuries. Compared to the same period in 2011, traffic accidents decreased by 42 incidents, 30 deaths, and 4 injuries. Notably, in 2012, there were no waterway traffic accidents in the province.
At the conference, delegates contributed many opinions, pointing out existing problems that need to be addressed in the coming time, such as: the traffic safety situation in the province remains complex, with some accidents causing serious consequences; railway accidents are on the rise; land clearance for some transportation projects is still slow; encroachment on sidewalks, especially in Vinh City, is widespread; and the transportation infrastructure network is severely degraded…

Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - presented certificates of commendation to individuals and collectives who achieved many accomplishments in ensuring traffic safety in 2012.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thanh Dien acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of all sectors and levels in ensuring traffic safety. Looking ahead, he requested that the following tasks be focused on: Strengthening state management of traffic safety; Promoting the dissemination and education of traffic safety laws; Investing in the construction of the road network; Improving the quality of training and testing for driver's licenses. He also instructed the traffic police force to regularly patrol, inspect, and strictly handle violations and clear traffic corridors.

Comrade Nguyen Hong Ky - Director of the Department of Transport, Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, presented certificates of commendation to collectives and individuals.
On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 16 collectives and 14 individuals who had achieved outstanding results in ensuring traffic safety in 2012. The National Traffic Safety Committee also awarded prizes to two works that won second and third place at the 9th National Traffic Safety Television Festival in 2012.
