Realizing that there was no longer any possibility of reform or education, the jury sentenced defendant Du Kim Lien to death for poisoning and killing Lieutenant Colonel Chuyen.

On the morning of March 29, hundreds of people living in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City came to the District 6 Children's House to watch the mobile trial of defendant Du Kim Lien, accused of "Murder" with barbaric intent and despicable motives under Article 93 of the Penal Code of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The trial was presided over by Judge Vu Thanh Lam - People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the indictment of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy, after more than 10 years of living together as husband and wife with Lieutenant Colonel Tran Xuan Chuyen - an officer of the Phu Lam Traffic Police Team, Road and Railway Traffic Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police, and having two sons together, the marital life between Ms. Lien and Mr. Chuyen became more and more conflicted.

Ms. Du Kim Lien in the dock at the mobile court on the morning of March 29.

Because of her gambling and partying nature, Ms. Lien had borrowed money from many people. All the family expenses and living expenses were shouldered by Mr. Chuyen. When he found out about the incident, Mr. Chuyen scolded and warned Ms. Lien many times.

Since then, Ms. Lien felt scared and had the idea of poisoning and killing her husband to mortgage the house she was living in (Hau Giang Street - Ward 11, District 6) to have money to pay off the debt of 1.3 billion VND because the creditor was demanding too much.

On March 11, 2012, Ms. Lien went to buy 10 sleeping pills because she knew that the next night, her husband (Mr. Chuyen) would come home from drinking, and he often had the habit of being hungry and drinking milk before going to bed. True to his word, the next night (March 12, 2012), when he came home from drinking, Mr. Chuyen said he was hungry, so Ms. Lien planned to put sleeping pills in a glass of milk and give it to her husband to drink.

Hundreds of local people attended the mobile trial from early morning on March 29.

Because he was drunk, Mr. Chuyen did not know what to taste, finished drinking and went back to sleep. Unfortunately, Mrs. Lien's intention to kill her husband did not come true because the next morning, Mr. Chuyen was still awake, but Mrs. Lien still went to Mr. Chuyen's office to ask for him to take a day off due to a cold.

For the next two days, with the intention of killing her husband, Ms. Lien went to the market to buy pesticide in powder and liquid form, along with syringes and needles, and injected it into her husband's buttocks two nights in a row.

On the night of March 13, 2012, Ms. Lien's intention to kill her husband came true. After being brutally poisoned by his wife, Mr. Chuyen died on the spot. At this time, Ms. Lien called her two children home, said that their father had suffered a stroke, and quickly urged relatives to quickly hold a funeral for Mr. Chuyen.

When the investigation agency requested an autopsy on Mr. Chuyen, Ms. Lien repeatedly objected because she feared that her poisoning and murder of her husband would be exposed. Relatives threatened to commit suicide if her husband's body was autopsied. However, the investigation agency was forced to follow proper procedures because there were too many irregularities in this death.

With the evidence and physical evidence seized at the scene, along with the testimony of witnesses, the autopsy results of the medical agency show that it is enough to conclude that Ms. Du Kim Lien is the culprit who poisoned and killed her husband with barbaric behavior and despicable motives.

Speaking publicly at the mobile court, Ms. Du Kim Lien affirmed that the indictment had prosecuted her correctly, with sufficient grounds, but still earnestly asked the jury to consider and reduce her sentence so that she could reunite with her family and children.

Legal representative for the victim - Mrs. Tran Thi U't, mother of Mr. Chuyen emphasized: Do not ask for a reduced sentence for your daughter-in-law, but ask the court to judge according to the provisions of the law.

The defendant's defense attorney - Mr. Vo Dan Mach (Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association) in his defense argued: Defendant Lien committed the crime in an unconscious state, "if she had been smarter, she could have killed the creditor instead of killing her husband."

This view was immediately opposed by the representative of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy at the trial because it was also an intention to violate the law.

Considering that Ms. Du Kim Lien's actions were extremely serious, could not be reformed into a good person, and needed to be eliminated from society, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City agreed with the People's Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City, sentencing Du Kim Lien to death for the crime of 'Murder' under Article 93 of the Penal Code.

Ms. Lien has the right to appeal within 15 days after the end of the first instance trial, and to write a petition for clemency to the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam within 7 days from the date the verdict takes legal effect.
