(Baonghean) -After a period of actively repairing and renovating the dam, building irrigation and traffic systems, taking advantage of favorable weather, salt farmers in Quynh Luu district are urgently entering the main salt production season.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Hung's family in Tan An village, An Hoa commune, Quynh Luu district has 250m2 of land specializing in salt production. Previously, cultivating this area required 2 or more workers, but now his family only needs one. Because the hardest part of salt production is soil preparation, but recently, thanks to the State's support of 1 million VND, Mr. Hung has built an improved filter system. Therefore, it has saved time and labor.

Currently, taking advantage of the favorable weather conditions, like other households in the village, he is urgently going to the fields to make salt. If the weather is sunny, Mr. Hung can also produce 400 kg of salt per day. With the current market price, salt is bought by traders for 1,500 - 1,600 VND and sold right at the plot, and the price of dry salt is from 1,800 - 2,000 VND/kg, his family also has an income of nearly 400,000 VND. Mr. Bui Ngoc Hung said: "The family also repaired the fields and started production, the price of salt is 160,000 VND/100 kg, and if we scrape it all off on a sunny day, we can earn 350,000 VND".

An Hoa is one of the two largest salt granaries in Quynh Luu district with an area of over 140 hectares. The commune's annual salt output is from 19,000 to 19,500 tons with a value of over 20 billion VND. The whole commune has 14 villages, of which 7 villages have over 1,100 households specializing in salt production. To continue promoting the strengths of local economic development, in 2012 An Hoa commune organized for salt farmers to visit the salt production model spread on canvas on the bottom of crystallization plots in Dien Van commune, Dien Chau district. After learning from the experience of this model, the commune conducted a trial on an area of 3,000m2 in 3 villages of Tan An, Tan Thinh, Tan Thang with the support of 50,000 VND/m2 of canvas and tape from the province and district. Up to now, the initial productivity has increased by 30% compared to normal production plots.

Currently, along with focusing on rapidly increasing the salt production area according to the new process, the commune is also investing in upgrading, expanding the area, building salt field infrastructure such as building water supply and drainage channels, improving drying cells... In addition, the locality also supports salt farmers in building improved filters, replacing sand in canals to increase productivity and reduce labor for salt farmers. Mr. Le Van Quyet, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Hoa commune, said: "From the beginning of 2013, the Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune focused on directing people to repair canals and canals and mobilized people to bring improved filters to the drying yard and focus on irrigation work to ensure the 2013 production season to reach 19,500 tons of salt".

Along with An Hoa, salt farmers in other salt-producing communes of Quynh Luu district such as Quynh Thuan, Quynh Tho, Quynh Ngoc, Quynh Nghia... are also excitedly harvesting the first tons of salt of 2013. With the urgent production spirit, combined with the fact that right from the beginning of the season, the price of salt is higher than the same period last year, we believe that the 2013 salt production will achieve high results.
