Hotels fined for overcharging during the international fireworks display.
On the morning of April 9th, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City announced that the inter-agency inspection team had issued fines to five hotels for overcharging tourists who booked rooms for the upcoming Da Nang International Fireworks Competition (DIFC) (April 29-30).

Hotels on both sides of the Han River with prime locations for viewing the fireworks are already fully booked.
Specifically, the inspection team divided into four working groups to inspect 36 hotels from March 21st to April 5th. As a result, five hotels were fined 21 million VND each for violations."Inflating" room pricesMeanwhile, the Da Nang City People's Committee had previously stipulated that room prices could not be increased by more than 50%.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, alongside the hotels that overcharge, there are still 5-star hotels that only increased prices by 15-20%, and the department also commended the hotels that committed to not increasing prices during DIFC: Vinpearl Luxury, Fusion Maia, Minh Toan, Sun River, Royal and Blue Snow.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lu Bang, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade and Head of the inter-agency inspection team of the city, said that the authorities are checking the price listing and compliance with the listed prices at 350 hotels that have registered their prices for fireworks displays. In addition to the 5 hotels that have already been fined, the team is also finalizing the dossiers to issue fines to 5 more hotels for similar violations.
Regarding the phenomenon of hotels using the tactic of inflating room rates for tour companies, Mr. Bang suggested that the Inspectorate of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City should also get involved to handle the matter strictly. At the same time, restaurants must display the prices of food and drinks on their menus; and if violations are discovered, tourists can call the hotline of the inter-agency inspection team (0913.414.909) for intervention.
