Checking the preparations for the inauguration ceremony of national border marker 460

(Baonghean.vn) -On June 3, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the People's Committee of Nghe An province inspected and worked on preparations for the inauguration ceremony of Vietnam-Laos border marker No. 460 at Thanh Thuy border gate (Thanh Chuong).

Attending the meeting were representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and central agencies led by Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Head of the National Border Committee. Nghe An province had leaders of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Construction, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Institute of Planning and Architecture, Provincial Police, Provincial Border Guard, Provincial Military Command. Comrade Thai Van Hang, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, led the delegation.

Construction of the 460th landmark at Thanh Thuy border gate started in mid-February 2013 and has now been basically completed. The 460th landmark was built on an area of ​​5,400 square meters, 120 meters long and 45 meters wide, with a landmark design in the middle, two trade routes between Vietnam and Laos. The location of the 460th landmark at Thanh Thuy border gate is at an altitude of 664.35 meters above sea level. This is the location of the national border marker that has been determined by the National Border Committee of the two countries, adjacent to Thanh Thuy commune (Thanh Chuong, Nghe An) and Nam On district (Bolikhamxay province, Laos). This is also the location chosen by the Government to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the State level, officially completing the work of planting markers on the field along the entire Vietnam-Laos border.

Regarding the preparation for the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Thai Van Hang, Vice Chairman of the province assigned the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Border Guard, the Provincial Police, the Provincial Military Command, and the Thanh Thuy Border Gate Border Guard Station to closely coordinate in implementing plans for organization, reception, and ensuring security and order in accordance with national protocol.

With the joint efforts of both sides, as of December 31, 2012, the two sides have agreed to identify 769 locations/811 markers (reaching 97%) and build 749 markers at 707 locations (reaching 89.7%). The two sides also proposed many measures to promote the progress of marker planting in the field, determined to complete this work before June 2013, and at the same time, start the construction of related legal documents, in order to complete the Project to increase the density and embellish the Vietnam - Laos border marker system in 2014 according to the deadline agreed by the leaders of the two countries.
