(Baonghean)At this point, sugarcane-growing areas are harvesting about 70-80% of their planted area. However, some areas in Tan Ky, Nghia Dan, and Quy Hop, where sugarcane is still in the seedling stage, are infected with sugarcane grassy shoot disease.

Local authorities have treated 2,540 hectares, including nearly 2,350 hectares of plowed fields and nearly 200 hectares of diseased plants removed. Currently, the province still has nearly 5,000 hectares infected, of which more than 1,170 hectares are moderately to severely infected. According to recommendations from the agricultural sector, localities in sugarcane growing areas with sugarcane affected by sugarcane grassy shoot disease should organize the complete harvesting of infected areas to facilitate treatment and replanting in time for the next season.

Local plant protection agencies, in coordination with agricultural departments of sugar factories, guide and direct farmers to thoroughly eliminate disease sources using the following methods: plowing and destroying disease sources in areas where 20% or more of the sugarcane plants are infected; and removing diseased plants in areas with mild infection (less than 20% of the sugarcane plants). In areas where disease sources have been plowed and destroyed, and the fields have been cleaned, disease-free seeds must be used for replanting.
