Establishing a National Assembly television channel.
On May 16th, the closing day of the 18th session, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly discussed the plan to establish a Vietnamese National Assembly television channel.
Mr. Nguyen Hanh Phuc, Head of the National Assembly Office, said: In the past period, the National Assembly Office has proactively coordinated with the Voice of Vietnam Radio and a number of relevant agencies and organizations to develop a specific plan for the National Assembly Television Channel.
Based on that, the National Assembly Office presented two options. Option 1: Establish a National Assembly Television Channel at the Voice of Vietnam (VOV). Option 2: Establish a National Assembly Television Channel at the National Assembly Office.
Based on an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of each option, Chairman Nguyen Hanh Phuc proposed choosing option 1 – assigning VOV as the managing agency of the National Assembly Television Channel to leverage existing advantages such as the technical infrastructure system, experienced human resources, wide coverage, and the existing "National Assembly with Voters" program with 80 permanent staff and 120 collaborators.
National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung agreed with the plan proposed by the National Assembly Office. He also noted that the Vietnam National Assembly Television channel must provide diverse coverage, not only of the National Assembly's activities but also of the People's Councils at all levels.
According to the investment plan, the Vietnam National Assembly Television Channel will be built in three major cities: Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. The investor is the Voice of Vietnam, with a total investment of approximately 183.2 billion VND. This is a type B project, using State budget funds. The expected implementation period is from 2013 to 2015.
