Life imprisonment for female director who defrauded 12 billion VND.

After defrauding a wealthy businessman of 12 billion VND, the female director used the money to pay off debts and buy land.

On the afternoon of April 9th, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court held a first-instance trial and sentenced the defendant Hoang Thi Le Quyen (35 years old, residing in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai province) to life imprisonment for the crime of "fraudulent appropriation of property".

According to the indictment, Hoang Thi Le Quyen is the director of Trang Viet Trading and Import-Export Company Limited (headquartered in Di An town, Binh Duong province).


Around June 2010, Quyen invited and proposed that businesswoman Dang Thi Lien invest in a business selling agricultural products. After hearing Quyen's business plan, Ms. Lien found it profitable and agreed to transfer 400 million VND to Quyen. As promised, Quyen repaid 440 million VND, including both principal and interest.


Two months later, Quyen spread the news about importing wheat fromHeroShe also signed a wheat purchase contract and promised Ms. Lien many benefits. Because the previous business deal was as successful as expected, Ms. Lien transferred nearly 12 billion VND into Quyen's account. After receiving the money, Quyen used it to pay off debts and buy land.


When the payment deadline arrived and Quyen said nothing, Ms. Lien went to meet her business partner and was shocked to discover she had been scammed. Following this, the wealthy businesswoman reported Quyen's fraudulent behavior.
