Authorities seize shipment of Chinese intelligence equipment.
The seized high-tech devices were used for recording and eavesdropping in intelligence services, invading privacy, and threatening political security.
On April 10th, the Express Delivery Customs Sub-Department (under the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department) announced that it had discovered a shipment of high-tech devices used for covert recording and eavesdropping, disguised as household items, being sent through non-commercial channels and as gifts. These products are strictly prohibited from use.
Upon verification, the shipment originated from China and contained sophisticatedly disguised listening and recording devices, making them difficult for the "other party" to detect.
These products are disguised as razors, shampoo bottles, keychains, toothbrushes, etc., with capacities ranging from 8-32 GB, wirelessly connecting to computers and being controlled remotely.
According to forensic experts, these types of devices have recently appeared and threaten personal safety. More importantly, they are being used by criminals with malicious intent, threatening and undermining political security and social order, including potentially infringing on national interests and industrial intelligence.
The shipment has now been sealed and transferred to the investigating agency to track down the owner, and subsequently to examine the purpose and motives behind importing these prohibited devices into Vietnam.
