Developing a master plan for the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
The People's Committee of Ha Giang province recently organized a workshop titled "Developing detailed plans for the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark for the period 2013-2020 and a vision for 2030."
At the workshop, scientists proposed various detailed planning solutions to attract tourists while aiming for the sustainable development of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark, such as biodiversity conservation, ecosystem conservation, geological heritage conservation, and detailed planning for sustainable tourism development.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Thang, Deputy Secretary-General of the UNESCO Vietnam Committee, stated that UNESCO places particular importance on the role of the community in the conservation and promotion of heritage. The Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark must be closely linked to the local people, especially in the four districts of Dong Van, Meo Vac, Yen Minh, and Quan Ba.
According to Mr. Thang, strengthening propaganda and education contributes to raising people's awareness of their responsibility to preserve heritage. Building a brand for the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark also needs to be linked to distinctive local tourism products such as tea, honey, and medicinal plants. In addition, it is necessary to continue promoting traditional cultural festivals of ethnic groups such as the Khau Vai Love Market, the rain-praying festival, and festivals of the Tay, Dao, Pa Then, and Mong ethnic groups.
Agreeing with the UNESCO representative, Mr. Trieu Tai Vinh, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee, affirmed that no other locality has such a high percentage of Mong people living there as Ha Giang. Therefore, the indigenous skills and cultural values preserved here are more concentrated than anywhere else, making it a land with great potential for development. However, for sustainable development and attracting tourists, building a detailed planning strategy is essential at this time. In the coming time, the province will coordinate and create all favorable conditions to welcome investors to Ha Giang.
According to the master plan, Ha Giang will develop four tourism centers that promote cultural values: the Dong Van historical and cultural tourism center; the Meo Vac border gate science, adventure, and trade tourism center; the Yen Minh green urban ecological tourism center; and the Quan Ba entertainment and recreation tourism center. However, to create a rich and high-quality tourism program, consultation with domestic and international experts is necessary.
The Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark is a vast area encompassing four highland border districts of Ha Giang province, home to many beautiful, endemic geological, cultural, and biodiversity heritage sites of scientific significance. It has been recognized by UNESCO as an International Geopark requiring conservation and preservation for humanity. The detailed planning of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark not only affirms Vietnam's sovereignty over its border region but also fulfills its commitment to international quality through the UNESCO Global Geopark designation.
