Measures to prevent and treat septicemia
During the rainy season, the livestock industry is greatly affected by lack of food and disease, of which disease is a factor causing great damage to livestock. To reduce damage to livestock, livestock farmers need to know how to prevent common diseases in livestock during the rainy season. We would like to introduce to you measures to prevent and treat septicemia.
* Causes and transmission of the disease
- The disease is caused by the bacteria Pasteurella multocida, the source of infection is food, drinking water or waste from sick animals to healthy animals.
- The disease can also arise from bacteria present in the digestive or respiratory tract of livestock when the weather changes suddenly, sick livestock have reduced resistance, creating conditions for Pasteurellosis bacteria to develop and cause disease.
- In our country, the disease occurs sporadically throughout the year and in all regions, but is most severe during the rainy season due to bacteria spreading through water and sticking to food.
* Symptoms: The disease is often acute in cattle and buffalo, the incubation period is only 1-3 days, the animal shows the following symptoms: No chewing, fatigue, sudden high fever 40-420 C; tears, runny nose continuously; mucous membranes of eyes, mouth, nose, subcutaneous tissue have dark red blood clots; dark gray.
- The throat is swollen, the cattle have to stick out their tongue to breathe, the breathing movement is very strong, commonly known as "double-tongued cattle disease", the cattle have difficulty walking due to swollen lymph nodes in the shoulder and thigh.
- Some animals with intestinal disease have symptoms of severe diarrhea, bloody stools and sloughing intestinal cells.
- When near death, sick cattle and buffaloes lie paralyzed, urinate blood, have difficulty breathing, and bleed from the mucous membranes of the eyes and nose. The disease progresses in 3-5 days, with 90-100% mortality. If the blood is infected, the mortality rate is faster, within 1-1.5 days. If the disease is malignant, also known as the acute form, the cattle suddenly have a high fever of 420C, become aggressive, crazy, bang their heads against the barn wall, and die quickly within 24 hours. If the sick cattle do not die, they will develop chronic disease, with intestinal inflammation, sometimes diarrhea, sometimes constipation, arthritis, chronic bronchitis, and pneumonia. Within a few weeks, the cattle can recover but are often emaciated.
* Disease prevention and treatment: Every year, it is necessary to inject anthrax vaccine every 6 months and inject before the rainy season with one of the following vaccines:
+ Vaccine mixed with formalin and alum glue, injected 3-5ml/time, after 5 days there is immunity, immunity lasts for 6 months.
+ Emulsified vaccine, injection dose 5ml, immunity after 7-10 days, immunity lasts 6-8 months.
+ Attenuated vaccine, inject 1-2ml, immunity after 7 days, lasting 4-6 months.
- Prepare enough food for livestock before the rainy season, take good care of livestock to ensure resistance to disease./.
